Jay Robotham set for Trans Am drive with new team
Rising star Jaylyn Robotham will compete in the National Trans Am Series in 2023.
The 20 year old will drive for new team The Racing Academy, run by long-time driver trainer and engineer Tom Williamson.
Williamson will expanded from his karting stables this year, running three cars in the Trans Am Series. Supercars star Tim Slade will contest the opening round with the team, Cody Gillis and Robotham forming a strong Symmons Plains line-up.
Slade will remain with The Racing Academy for the season, staying on as a driver mentor. Young West Australian Formula Ford title winner Elliott Cleary will replace Slade from Round 2 at Phillip Island.
Robotham has contested the last two Super2 Series, claiming his maiden win in the series at Sydney Motorsport Park last year.
After his junior karting, Robotham raced Hyundai Excels and Toyota 86 before stepping into Super2, as well as making his Bathurst 1000 debut last year in a wildcat entry.
For 2023, Robotham is committing to the popular Trans Am Series where he will take on a star-studded field in what is regarded as one of the most hotly-contested national motorsport categories in Australia.
His Australian Trans Am debut won’t be his first race in these style of cars, however. Robotham competed in similar TA2 chassis in the Thailand Super Series back in 2019.
The opening round will be held at Symmons Plains Raceway as part of the opening round of the Shannons SpeedSeries.

QUOTES
Jaylyn Robotham
Driver, The Racing Academy
“Trans Am is definitely a good category. It’s got nice, tight racing and it’s very competitive,” said Robotham.
“I drove these cars in Thailand. The Australian cars are a little bit different, but certainly the V8s on a Hoosier tyre are a lot of fun to drive.
“There are some really strong drivers in Trans Am and I know they’ll be having a crack. For me coming from Super2 last year, it will be interesting to see how it goes.
“Tom is a well respected driver coach from karting, and he is progressing into cars now. It will be cool for me to have a fresh start with a fresh team.
“I’m looking forward to meeting the team and having a good season.
“Having team-mates is definitely an advantage. You can always learn from them, no matter how inexperienced they are. We’ll see how its plays out, but there’s always ways to learn.”
