Young gun Edan Thornburrow Joins Garry Rogers Motorsport
Young prospect Edan Thornburrow will join Garry Rogers Motorsport for this year’s National Trans Am Series driving the squad’s #116 Ford Mustang.
Having participated in the National Trans Am Series since the inaugural season in 2021, Thornburrow finished an impressive runner up to Dream Racing Australia’s Nathan Herne, who won the title last year for GRM.
Thornburrow is a consistent top 10 contender after finishing seventh in last year’s title standings, but is aiming to make the next step with GRM to become a title challenger and race winner.
“Last year I was consistent, but we just lacked outright speed, we’d get it right for the end of the weekend but in Trans Am you need to be rolling out on the pace early on,” said Thornburrow.
“The GRM cars are quite different to what I’d been driving, they feel much more refined in every aspect and I feel that’s going to help me take that next step in my achievements in 2023.”
The relationship between the title winning operation and Thornburrow began at last year’s GRM Combine Driven by Marcos Ambrose where he was a participant and for the 2023 edition, he became a mentor.
“It’s really exciting to be joining Garry Rogers Motorsport after I got my first taste of the team back in 2022 and developed that further at the most recent Combine,” Thornburrow explained.
“It’s an extremely professional outfit but it also has a great comradery and I have already built great relationships not only with the current drivers, but also the engineers and mechanics who I’ll be working with this year.
“My car is at the workshop now and it’s receiving a bit of a Birthday, with a new motor and gearbox going in. It will be just like driving a new car when I get back behind the wheel, which I’m really excited for.
“Thanks to Barry, Garry and Marcos Ambrose who have been a big part of me joining the team, he’s really pushed me along and helped me develop as a driver.”
Thornburrow’s long-time sponsor Sydney Property Care will continue its primary support of his entry for 2023.
