Golding Takes out Final Race Win in Tasmania

James Golding dominated the final race of the weekend at AWC Race Tasmania in the Trico Trans Am Series to secure his first round win, while Jordan Boys closed to within five points of the series lead.

For the first time all weekend, the polesitter led the field out of turn two, with Golding looking untroubled from the outset in his Garry Rogers Motorsport Ford Mustang. Elliot Barbour settled in to second place, while James Moffat improved to third in the opening laps.

Boys worked his way past Moffat on lap four, setting after Barbour in the battle for second. Todd Hazelwood demoted the series leader one further spot as he improved to fourth just a few laps later.

There was a problem for Ben Grice on lap 12, with the All American Driveline and Auto Parts car spinning through the grass at turn six. That spin triggered a fourth grass fire in as many races, with the Safety Car deployed in order for the flames to be safely extinguished.

Racing resumed on lap 16, with Boys setting to work on the rear bumper of Barbour’s Pioneer DJ Camaro, bringing Hazelwood into the fight as well.

Mark Bailey and Joshua Thomas made contact on the exit of the hairpin which, combined with Tim Slade grinding to a halt on circuit, triggered a second Safety Car intervention.

Golding crossed the line to take victory from Barbour and Boys, matching the overall round results for the trio as well.

Moffat continues to lead the series, but his margin is just five points over the chasing pack led by Boys. Golding vaults to third, over Hazelwood and Barbour who climbs 10 places in the standings.

Round three for the Trico Trans Am Series takes place at Phillip Island, as part of the Shannons SpeedSeries, from April 12-14.
