All American Driveline’s Ben Grice seals pole at AWC Race Tasmania

It was a battle of the second generation races in qualifying for the opening round of the Supercheap Auto National Trans Am Series at AWC Race Tasmania.

At the conclusion of the two-part qualifying session, it was Ben Grice edging yesterday’s fast man James Moffat in the Valvoline LMCT+ GRM Ford Mustang.

It was a battle between fastest in practice Moffat and Grice from the start as it was the latter in the All American Driveline Ford Mustang holding the ascendency halfway through the session on a 54.201s.

The pair was split by just 0.006s.

Both were unable to go better in the second run enabling Grice to hold pole from Moffat and AWC GRMs Lochie Dalton at his home event was third alongside category debutant Jaylyn Robotham in the lead The Racing Academy Ford Mustang.

Fifth was the third GRM entry of Owen Kelly from his stablemate Edan Thornburrow, Tim Slade , Tom Hayman, Elliot Barbour after a late run and Brett Holdsworth rounded out the 10 in the TPS Group/Breeze Holiday Parks Chevrolet Camaro.

Split into two-parts, Tyler Everingham led the way in the first segment of qualifying for the bottom half of the field after finishing 11th in second practice yesterday afternoon.

Leading the way with a 54.911s from Dream Racing Australia teammate Adam Garwood, Everingham set the time on his opening lap and failed to improve.

Jett Johnson in the NAPA Auto Parts Ford Mustang finished the session third from Cairns Plaza Hotel supported James Simpson in his Dodge Challenger.

Masters Cup was led by Mark Crutcher in his Ford Mustang, but John Holinger and Craig Scutella were close behind in their Chevrolet Camaros.

This afternoon’s race at AWC Race Tasmania commences at 3:25pm AEDT.
