Nathan Herne returns to the victory lane in Race 2

Reigning series winner Nathan Herne secured his first victory of the season after a rapid start in Race 2.

Yesterday’s winner Tim Brook led away as reigning title holder Herne made the best start out of the lead quartet to take second from Kyle Gurton, as he set up a move for the lead exiting the hairpin.

Herne indeed made a superb exit and ran side-by-side with Brook travelling along the back sweeper, taking the advantage prior to Turn 6, opening the door for Gurton to re-take second and Grice to also drop the Race 1 winner a further spot.

Drama continued as the battle for the lead heated up between Herne and Gurton as the two bumped doors along the back sweeper, however the race was neutralised under safety car when Nash Morris beached his Supercheap Auto Ford Mustang in the Turn 4 sand trap.

As the safety car boards came out, Chris Sutton collided with Craig Scutella at Turn 4 as Trans Am rookies Jon McCorkindale and Jackson Rice narrowly avoided the incident.

Unfortunately, the race was unable to be restarted with Herne taking victory from Gurton and Grice.

The final event for Turtle Wax Trans Am is at 3:05pm AEDT on Stan Sport.
