Success for Tim Brook in opening Turtle Wax Trans Am Series race

TRADIEPAD Racing’s Tim Brook has taken the opening race of Turtle Wax Trans Am Series as part of AWC Race Tasmania at Symmons Plains.

Brook won the start from polesitter Kyle Gurton as the same occurred on the second row as reigning Turtle Wax Trans Am Series Nathan Herne also jumped Ben Grice although the latter sent his All American Auto Parts and Driveline Ford Mustang around the outside at the hairpin, but failed to take back the position.

The safety car interrupted proceedings to recover the stranded Dial Before You Dig Ford Mustang of Jon McCorkindale after he locked up at the penultimate corner and hit the Supercheap Auto example of Nash Morris.

Racing resumed on lap 8 with Brook leading Gurton, Herne and Grice in proximity, until the TRADIEPAD Mustang ran wide at the hairpin, but held out the pack to remain at the head of the field along the back sweeper.

Dream Racing Australia debutant Jackson Rice spun with help from Edan Thornburrow at Turn 2, but was able to recover.

Kelly’s race was hampered by a pit stop to fix his seatbelt forcing him to pit before the safety car was again needed to put out a grass fire at Turn 6.

Upon the second restart, there was contact between Morris and local Tim Shaw at Turn 2, which put the later in the outside wall, while Carroll in an unrelated incident was slow on the inside of Turn 3.

The race finished under safety car with Brook winning from Gurton, Herne, Grice and Elliot Barbour rounding out the five on debut.

Burcher, Holdsworth, Lochie Dalton, Dalton Ellery was ninth after a broken axle yesterday and Jett Johnson finished behind to finish his debut race inside the 10.

Tomorrow’s second race is at 1:15pm AEDT on Stan Sport and 9Gem.
