Lee Holdsworth storms to pole as Alfas dominate qualifying

Lee Holdsworth has made the perfect start to his Supercheap Auto TCR Australia Series career, taking poole position for the opening round for 2021 at Symmons Plains Raceway in Launceston, Tasmania.

The former Supercars star was too good for the field, taking pole by just under a tenth of a second from fellow Alfa driver Jordan Cox.

Holdsworth’s Ash Seward Motorsport team-mate Jay Hanson was third, making for a brilliant start to the Italian brands’ 2021 campaign.

The Alfa domination was only interrupted by Chaz Mostert’s Audi, who will start fourth, marginally faster than Michael Caruso in the fourth Alfa in the field.

Mostert’s MPC Audi stablemate Luke King was sixth, ahead of Aaron Cameron’s Valvoline Peugeot that spent some time in the sand trap at the hairpin. He was able to make it back onto the circuit without causing a red flag.

Rounding out the top 10 was Brad Shiels (Hyundai), Josh Buchan (Hyundai) and James Moffat (Renault), who suffered an engine issue that saw him stop in pit lane.

The first race of the 2021 Supercheap Auto TCR Australia Series will start at 4:55pm AEDT.
